Winemaking Notes
The vineyard that comprises 40% of this wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon are from the Monte Sereno Vineyard at 2,200 ft above the valley floor in High Valley Appellation. 4.2 acres were planted in 2001 to clone 337 and clone 4. The remaining balance of the varietal came from our newly planted Volcano Ridge Vineyard adjacent to the Round Mountain volcano. It was planted in 2003 to clones 8, 337 and 15 and this was the first year that grapes were harvested from these steep sloping volcanic soils.
Tasting Notes
The other Bordelais varietals added to the cuvee were from adjacent vineyards at Monte Sereno and Volcano Ridge, and are blended to create a wine with more suppleness and complexity. A longer and cooler growing season in 2005 softened the grape tannins and developed ripe flavors trie to this noble varietal. Aromas of sweet, dried currants with a hint of dust, bay laurel and fennel, open to a focused entry onto the soft, round and full bodied mid-palate.
