2009 High Valley Appellation

Zinfandel

Purchase This Product

The 2009 vintage marks the debut of David Ramey as our winemaker, whose wines of balanced expression have made him one of the most renowned and influential winemakers in America today.

FRUIT

85% Zinfandel | 15% Petite Sirah

VINEYARDS

The two and a half acre vineyard that bears this fruit is located above 2000 feet on the eastern edge of High Valley Appellation, along the base of Round Mountain Volcano. The combination of high elevation and extremely porous soils both limit production while extracting profound quality and flavor.

WINEMAKING

At Brassfield Estate, our winemaking emphasizes quality and the use of traditional hand crafted techniques, which create wines that have both power and finesse. During harvest we used aerative pump over’s and finish with extended maceration with heating of the must. The Malolactic fermentation takes place in our caves using native bacteria. The wine was stirred monthly on its lees to achieve body and texture, and a small percentage of Petite Sirah from our Volcano Ridge vineyard was blended to provide additional depth and structure. The wine was fined, but bottled without filtration.

TASTING NOTES

The 2009 Zinfandel is a concentrated wine that is rich, ripe and round. It has aromas of blackberry pie and black cherry, with undertones of oak, which expands into a wine that has plush tannins with jammy fruit essences that linger on the finish.
