At 2900 feet above sea level the Perspective Vineyard is located on the steep slopes overlooking Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti. This special site is planted to six different clones of Syrah in the Roman trellising system. It is reminiscent of the vineyards in the Cote Rotie region of Rhone Valley, with howling winds that cool down the vines on hot days. The vineyard planting is super high density, offering an ideal environment for vine stress and restricting crop yields, resulting in concentrated and complex wines. Perspective is one of the only vineyards in North America to be planted in this fashion.
At Brassfield Estate, our winemaking emphasizes quality and the use of traditional hand-crafted techniques, which create wines that have both power and finesse. During harvest we used aerative pump overs and finish with extended maceration with heating of the must. We allowed our wines to undergo malolactic fermentation naturally in our caves. To showcase the fruit and structure of this wine, it was aged in 100% French oak barrels for 20 months. The wine was stirred monthly on its lees to achieve body and texture. This Perspective Syrah was fined, but bottled without filtration.
