Tasting Notes
Aromatically the wine offers seductive notes of wild strawberries, toasted brioche, red currants, and a hint of dried herbs. The fruit forward character of soft berry fruit and bright cherries are supported well by a finish of cedar and vanilla. The balance of all these components, along with its refreshing acidity, shapes this Pinot Noir into an exceptional hedonistic experience.
Vineyard Notes
Fruit for the 2013 Pinot Noir Reserve was grown from one of our Estate vineyard blocks that showcased the best of the best. This block is composed of clone 828, which originates from the Cote d’Or region of Burgundy, France. The location of this block was chosen because it is one of the coldest sites on the High Serenity Ranch vineyard. Clone 828 is appreciated for its distinctive varietal character, lower production potential, sweet berry fruit, and excellent acid retention.
Production Notes
The 2013 Pinot Noir was harvested at peak ripeness, hand-sorted, and destemmed with 15-20% whole clusters to enhance varietal complexity. Each separate lot was cold soaked for 3 days, in order to extract more color and flavor. Then, each vessel of Pinot Noir underwent a native yeast fermentation with twice-daily pump-overs. Once fermentation was finished, the wine was sent to 50% new French oak barrels and 50% once used French oak barrels for 17 months sur-lies aging. The 2013 Pinot Noir Reserve was lightly fined and bottled without filtration.
