Tasting Notes
Aromas of honeydew melon, green apple, and orange zest lead to a mouthfeel comprised of a lemon-lime coated peach pit. Racy and crisp, this Viognier has a laser beam like focus leading to a long, lingering, mineral-laden finish.
Vineyard Notes
At 2900 feet above sea level the Perspective Vineyard is located on the steep slopes overlooking Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti. This special site is planted to six different clones of Syrah and one clone of Viognier in the Roman-inspired trellising system. It is reminiscent of the vineyards in the Cote Rotie region of Rhone Valley, with howling winds that cool down the vines on hot days. The vineyard planting is super high density, offering an ideal environment for vine stress and restricting crop yields, resulting in concentrated and complex wines. Perspective is one of the few vineyards in North America to be planted in this fashion.
Winemaker Notes
We whole-cluster press our Viognier grapes in order to obtain the cleanest juice possible. After twenty-four hours of cold settling the juice is racked clean and fermentation is started in stainless steel. The fermenting wine is transferred to older oak barrels to finish and remains there for sur lee aging. Monthly stirring of the lees contributes to the wines rich texture. A light fining and filtration prepare the wine for bottling.
