Our 2019 Petit Verdot is a deep ruby color in the glass. Aromas of blackberry and dark
cherry are teamed with herbal notes of sage and lilac. The palate holds velvety tannins
that offer details of cherry cordial, boysenberry jam and cedar. A smooth supple texture
carries into the finish, making for a complex wine that is also easy to enjoy.
La Loma Vineyard is a high density, premier vineyard planted among the gently rolling
hills of a raised bench between the valley floor and the ridgeline above. Elevation is
slightly higher than the valley floor, ranging from 1800ft to 2000ft. The vineyard is planted
to mostly Bordeaux varietals with a single block of Grenache at the highest elevation. Each
block of these south facing vineyards is unique and less than an acre in size. The soil of
this block is comprised of ancient lakeshore. This, coupled with the cool marine breeze
that blows through the valley during the spring and summer months, make it an optimal
terroir for impressive wine grapes.
Our 2019 Petit Verdot was harvested in late September, crushed and transferred to
stainless tanks for fermentation. We used twice daily pump overs to keep primary
fermentation healthy. After sending wines to barrels, we allowed the wine to undergo
natural malolactic fermentation in our cave. To showcase the fruit and structure of this
wine, it was aged in 10% new French oak and 90% neutral oak barrels for 15 months.
The wine was stirred monthly on its lees to achieve body and texture.
