Tasting Notes
Our 2020 Reserve Pinot Noir showcases an energetic mix of cotton candy, cherry, and cola spice. The textured mid-palate displays delicious raspberry and pomegranate characters framed by integrated spice and herbal elements. Seamless and supple, the rich body boasts hints of French Oak and a lasting brightness through the finish.
Vineyard Notes
Fruit for the 2020 Reserve Pinot Noir is harvested from a single vineyard block situated in a west-facing box canyon. This location is the coolest site in High Valley. The saddle in the ridge above the vineyard allows cooler air from above Clear Lake to spill down into the block, producing Pinot Noir with more intense varietal character, notable color extraction, and excellent acid retention. The soil in these blocks is comprised of ancient lakeshore and the fruit is a mix of Dijon clones planted in a northeast and southwest orientation to optimize sun exposure during verasion.
Production Notes
Our Pinot Noir was harvested at the peak of ripeness in the early morning, hand-sorted, and placed in tank with 15% of the fruit whole cluster. This Pinot Noir underwent primary fermentation in stainless steel tanks with twice-daily aerating pump-overs. The wine was then barreled down for malolactic fermentation in our caves. Once fermentation was finished the wine was aged in 30% new French oak for 9 months before lightly filtering and bottling.
