Although inky-dark and brooding with incredible aromas and flavors the tannins are quite soft in this full-bodied wine with hints of plums, lavender and a kiss of toasty oak on the round, voluptuous finish.
The Volcano Ridge Vineyard is located on the steep slopes of an extinct cinder cone volcano at 2000-2200 feet above sea level. The pure volcanic soils, or “tephra”, are extremely well-drained and are ideal for vine stress and restricting crop yields resulting in concentrated and complex wines, deep hues, and opulent fruit flavors. This is only the second crop off of this young vineyard which created a wine of intense ripe black berry and boysenberry profiles
15 months new oak (French, American, Hungarian)
